With the rise of the information age and most of us spending hours on our laptops, tablets, and smartphones, more and more people complain of upper back pain, neck pain, and/or headaches. The Backpod by Bodystance is a specialized physiotherapy device that is designed to stretch out a bent and stiffened upper and middle spine to help relieve upper back pain, neck pain and stiffness, and headaches. How To Use the Backpod by Bodystance: 

Start slowly so that your body can adjust to the new posture and movement gradually

  • When you first start using the Backpod, we recommend placing  three pillows on the floor. This is because your spine can be really tight, and too painful to put much leverage on initially.
  • You can gradually reduce the number of pillows to allow for a stronger stretch (it can take up to two or three weeks to get to no pillows).
  • Lie back with the Backpod roughly between the shoulder blades.
  • Bring your hands up above your head, chin tucked in and keep your knees up.
  • Your upper body will now be lying on the Backpod, stretching out the spine in the opposite direction to all the forward bending that happens during a normal day.
  • Hold the position for roughly 30 seconds then slightly re-adjust, so you begin to work the Backpod to the top of the back, up to shoulder level and out to the sides to stretch the rib hinges. 
  • Remember to keep your chin in and your shoulders relaxed, so that it stretches the pectoral (chest) muscles and you’re getting a complete stretch.
  • We recommend doing this for several minutes every evening. It may take a few weeks for things to loosen enough for you to not feel any soreness.
  • NB: Using the Backpod on a bed will not be effective due to the springy nature of the bed. For the intended results, this item is meant to be used on the floor. 

 

Materials: 

  • The outer cushion (which is green in color) is made from hypoallergenic synthetic rubber. 
  • The blue core is made from super-strong polycarbonate.
